Five Step-by-Step Instructions for Playing the Game

Precis of the Gameplay:

FIRST:

Each Player produces three images, one for each of the three Parts of a Creature; a 'Head', a 'Body, & a 'Legs'. As well as drawing these Parts, each Player must also come up with a suitable Name for a Creature. (The Parts do not have to make a whole character; they are going to be redistributed by the Bank, anyway.)

THEN:

The Bank takes all the Parts mailed in by each of the Players, & assembles them in a random (or otherwise predetermined) order to form bizarre new Creatures. These are posted on this website.

You will need the following:

A paint program (preferably Photoshop)
An e-mail program that can send image attachments
(Optional: a scanner or a digital camera)

Want to Play?

If you have not played the game before but would like to have a go, then fill in this form to e-mail the Bank for simple instructions:

Five Step-by-Step Instructions for Playing the Game:

Step One

The Bank mails everyone to suggest a starting date.
Those who wish to play reply to the Bank agreeing to the date, or suggesting another.
Having heard from all the Players, the Bank confirms the date, so everyone can get started.

Step Two

The Templates required for play can be downloaded by clicking here on their names, which are:

"Head_Template.gif"

"Body_Template.gif"

"Legs_Template.gif"

…these are gifs of 516 x 258 pixels. The function of these Templates is to indicate where & how each Part of the Creature joins the next Part. However, they are not in a suitable format for sending on; they are just a starting point.

You can, of course, paint over or erase the grey registration marks in your copies, as long as you let them guide you.

As an alternative to drawing onscreen, you could scan an image (or take a digital photo) & manipulate it to fit the registration marks of the Template.

Step Three

It is recommended that you put your initials somewhere discreet in each of the images, partly so that everyone knows who has done what, & partly so that it is easier to collate the Parts later. You may also like to consider the poor Bank, who has to put a name to the finished Creature, & leave him some space (though there's no need to overdo it…).

Step Four

Your three Parts should now be ready to save. While Saving, check the size:

width: 516 pixels
height: 258 pixels

Step Five

The other thing you need to do is to think up a Name for a Creature. Write this down in the body text of an e-mail (for example: "The Name of this Creature is: 'What I Like About Wednesdays'"). Attach the three gifs you have created to this e-mail, & send it to the address we gave you when you filled in the form above.

Step Six

There is no step six. Visit this website after the Creatures are finished, & enjoy the hideous fruits of our mutual endeavours.
